At our family farm near Meridian Beach on Gull Lake, we are committed to raising top-quality grass-fed beef through sustainable and ethical practices. Our journey begins right here on the farm, where our cows give birth to their calves in a natural and nurturing environment. From birth, our calves are raised with care and attention, ensuring they grow up healthy and strong.

 

Our cattle graze rotationally on lush, nutrient-rich pastures, enjoying a diet that consists entirely of grass. This natural diet not only supports their health and well-being but also enhances the quality of the beef. From birth to butcher, our cattle are rotationally grazed, allowing them to move to fresh pasture daily during the summer months. In the winter, they are bale grazed or swath grazed, depending on the year. These practices promote their natural behaviors and contribute to the health of the land.

 

This method of grazing is beneficial for the environment as well. It improves soil health, encourages biodiversity, and helps sequester carbon, making our farming practices sustainable and eco-friendly.

Pigs

At our farm, we purchase wiener pigs each spring and raise them with care and respect, allowing them to thrive in their natural environment. Our pigs are rotationally grazed, meaning they are moved to fresh pastures regularly. This not only ensures they have access to new foraging grounds but also helps to maintain healthy and fertile soil.

 

Our pigs are given the freedom to engage in their natural behaviors. They root, forage, and explore, doing what pigs love most—being pigs! We utilize their natural instincts to benefit our land, as they root up designated areas and leave behind nutrient-rich manure. This natural process acts as a form of tilling and fertilization, preparing the soil for future planting. Our pigs are, in essence, our hardworking, four-legged tractors, contributing to the sustainability and productivity of our farm.

 

By the time fall arrives, our pigs are healthy, robust, and ready for butchering. We take pride in knowing that they’ve had the best life possible, filled with fresh air, sunshine, and plenty of space to roam. Our commitment is to ensure that they live fulfilling lives, which in turn provides us and our customers with high-quality, ethically raised pork.

Sheep

Each spring, new life is abundant on the farm. Ewes begin to lamb in a natural, peaceful environment, where they are given the space and care to bond with their newborns. From the moment they are born, our lambs are raised with attention and respect, ensuring they grow healthy and strong.

Our sheep are rotationally grazed, moved regularly to fresh pastures to ensure they have access to the best forage while allowing the land to thrive. Their grazing benefits both the animals and the environment, helping to maintain healthy pastures and promoting biodiversity.

By the fall, our lambs are robust and healthy, having spent their days in the fresh air, under the sun, and on vibrant, nutrient-rich grass. Our commitment to sustainable practices results in lamb that is not only flavorful and tender but also raised with care for both the land and the animals.

Chickens

Our journey begins with day-old chicks, which are lovingly cared for in our specially designed hoop houses. Here, they spend their first 4 to 6 weeks under the warmth of a brooder, ensuring they have the best start to life.

 

Once they are strong and feathered, our birds are moved to the pasture. They live within secure electric netting and have access to chicken tractors that provide protection from heat and inclement weather. Over the next 10 to 12 weeks, our birds thrive as they are rotated daily to fresh, lush grass. This not only allows them to express their natural behaviors and receive a diet rich in nutrients but also contributes to their overall health and well-being.

 

Additionally, this rotational grazing practice is wonderful for the land. It promotes soil health, enhances biodiversity, and helps sequester carbon, making our farming methods beneficial for the environment as well.
